Notifications on the Styler Hub app πŸ“²

The Styler Hub app can tell you the moment something happens to one of your bookings, so you don't have to keep checking the calendar. This is what it sends, who gets it, and what to do when it doesn't arrive.

πŸ‘€ Two different apps, two different things. The Styler Hub app is the one you and your team sign into to run the business β€” that's the one this article is about. If you have a branded customer app, the notifications you send from it to your customers are a separate feature entirely.

What sets one off

Three things, and they have one thing in common β€” a customer did them.

Notification

What sets it off

New Booking

A customer books, through your booking widget or your branded app

Booking Cancelled

A customer cancels their booking

Booking Rescheduled

A customer moves their booking to a different time

Each one carries the customer's name, the date and time, the staff member and the booking reference β€” enough to know whether it needs dealing with before you open anything.

πŸ‘€ Bookings you make or change yourself don't send one. Add a booking in the Hub, drag one to a new time, or cancel one for a customer who has rung up, and nobody is notified. These alerts exist to tell you about things happening while you aren't looking β€” you don't need telling about something you have just done.

πŸ’‘ That's worth holding on to, because it means a quiet phone doesn't mean a quiet day. It means nothing has come in on its own since you last checked. A busy day booked entirely over the phone will make no sound at all.

Who gets one

Two things decide it, and the first one catches people out.

1. Whether your Hub account is linked to a staff member.

  • Linked to a staff member β€” you hear about your own bookings only: the ones you're assigned to.

  • Not linked to a staff member (an owner or admin account) β€” you hear about every booking in the business.

πŸ‘€ This is why the owner's phone can be busy all morning while a stylist's stays silent, on the same day, with identical settings. Nothing is broken β€” it's the difference between an admin account and a staff account.

2. Whether you're signed into the app on that device. Notifications go to phones and tablets signed into the Styler Hub app. Using the Hub in a browser on your laptop puts nothing on your phone β€” you have to sign in on the phone itself, at least once.

πŸ‘€ Removing someone's Hub account stops their device receiving anything, straight away. When a staff member leaves, removing their access is all that's needed β€” there's no separate device to unregister.

Choosing what you get

Go to Settings, then under Hub click Notifications. There are three switches:

  • New Bookings

  • Cancellations

  • Booking Updates

πŸ‘€ These are yours alone. Every person sets their own, on their own account. Turning yours off affects nobody else, and nobody else can turn yours off for you.

πŸ‘€ Each switch controls the email and the push notification together. There's no way to keep one and drop the other β€” see Every email Styler sends for what the email version looks like.

πŸ’‘ If you've never opened that screen, all three are on. That's deliberate: it's easier to notice a notification you didn't want than to notice one you never got.

While you're at the desk

When you're working in the Hub in a browser, a new booking or a cancellation also appears as a message in the corner of the screen as it happens.

πŸ‘€ That one is separate. It needs the Hub open in front of you, and it isn't governed by the switches above β€” so you may see it on screen even with your notifications turned off.

When a notification doesn't arrive

Work down this list in order β€” the causes are roughly in order of how often they turn out to be the answer.

  1. Are you signed into the Styler Hub app on that device? Browser-only means no notifications, however the settings look.

  2. Has your phone been allowed to show notifications for the app? This is your phone's own settings, not Styler's. It's often declined once at install and never thought about again.

  3. Are you assigned to that booking? Unless your account is an admin one, you only hear about your own.

  4. Is the switch on? Settings β†’ Hub β†’ Notifications.

  5. Was the change actually made by a customer? Anything done in the Hub sends nothing, by design.

πŸ’‘ The fastest way to tell "never sent" from "sent but not delivered" is the booking itself. Open it and look at the Booking Timeline β€” if it says the booking was made or changed on the Hub, no notification was ever sent and there is nothing to fix.

FAQs

❓ Can I get notifications about other people's bookings?

  • Only an account that isn't linked to a staff member receives every booking. That's how it's set up rather than something you can switch on, so ask whoever administers your Hub if you need it changed.

❓ I've turned everything off. Will I still see the bookings?

  • Yes. Notifications are a convenience β€” the calendar is the record, and nothing is hidden from it either way.

❓ Everyone in the salon gets a notification for the same booking. Can we stop that?

  • Each person is only notified about bookings they're assigned to, so this usually means several accounts aren't linked to a staff member and are behaving as admin accounts. That's worth tidying up β€” see adding staff accounts.

❓ Do I need the app? Can I not just use the browser?

  • The Hub works fully in a browser, and the app shows you the same Hub. The app is what makes notifications possible β€” that's the difference between them.

❓ A customer rescheduled and I got nothing.

  • Check Booking Updates is on in Settings β†’ Hub β†’ Notifications β€” it's the newest of the three, and it's the one people haven't looked at yet. Then check you're the staff member assigned to the booking after the change: if the reschedule moved it to a colleague, it's their notification now, not yours.
