How do I design my app? 🎨

What to send us for your app design, and how to follow its progress through the five build stages on the App Status page.

We build your app for you — you don't design anything yourself. What we need from you is the raw material, and then you can watch it progress.

What we need from you

🖼️ Your logo

  • Ideally with and without a background. JPEG or PNG.

  • The higher the resolution the better — a logo pulled off a website often looks soft on a modern phone screen.

🎨 Your colours

  • If you have exact colour codes from your branding or website, send those. We'll match them precisely rather than guessing from an image.

👩‍💼 Staff photos

  • One per staff member, for their profile page. Head and shoulders works best.

  • Consistent photos look considerably more professional than a mix of selfies and old snapshots. Worth twenty minutes with a phone camera against a plain wall.

💡 Send everything at once. The single biggest cause of a slow app launch is waiting on one missing logo file.

Following your app's progress

Go to Settings, then under App click App Status. You'll see a timeline showing exactly where your app is.

There are five stages:

  1. Data Onboarding — we're importing and configuring your data.

  2. Design — we're building your app with your logo, colours and photos.

  3. Testing — it's built, and being checked before it goes anywhere near the stores.

  4. In Review — submitted to Apple and Google. They review every app, and how long that takes is up to them.

  5. Deployed — live and downloadable.

👀 iOS and Android progress separately. The two stores review independently, so it's normal for one to be Deployed while the other is still In Review. Nothing has gone wrong.

💡 Check here before asking where your app is. The timeline is the same information your Consultant would look up.

Approving it before it goes live

You get to see your app before it reaches the stores.

iPhone users: we can send you a working preview to try. We'll need your Apple ID — the email address on your Apple account. To find it: iPhone Settings → tap your name → the email is listed there.

Android users: we'll send you screenshots to approve before it goes live.

After it's live

Your app doesn't stand still. Two further states apply once it's out:

  • Updating — a new version is being prepared or submitted.

  • Removed — the app has been taken down from the stores.

You can also manage some of your app yourself from Settings → App, including App Preferences and Push Notifications.

FAQs

How long does the whole thing take?

  • The parts we control are reasonably predictable. Store review is not — Apple and Google set their own pace. Your Consultant can give you a realistic estimate for where you are.

Can I change the design later?

  • Yes. Speak to your Consultant. Significant changes mean a new version and another store review, so it's worth getting the branding right at the start.

It's been In Review for a while.

  • That's the stage entirely outside our control. Reviews can take days, and apps are occasionally sent back with questions. Your Consultant will tell you if anything's been raised.
